Our traditionally hand woven kilim rugs have been carefully selected by us to feature natural, faded colours and eye-catching yet subtle designs within the weave.  We have chosen only the rugs we would love to have in our own homes.  Our decisions are based on overall size, colour and pattern within the weave.

Handwoven on the loom, each of our woolen traditional handwoven kilim rugs are totally unique, there are never two made which are exactly the same as the weaver has the artistic license to create his or her own design at the loom, often choosing colours which are to hand and available on the day.

Each piece of wool is hand dyed using naturally occurring organic dyes found from nature.  Kilims are made by interweaving the variously coloured wefts and warps, creating what is known as a flatweave.

Kilims are made using the slitweave technique. The slit refers to the gap left between two colours. Generally created by returning the weft around the last warp in a colour area, and the weft of the adjacent colour is later wound around the adjacent warp.

Weavers pack the weft tightly to cover the warp and often use diagonal patterns so as to avoid weakening the structure of the rug.  This method produces bold, patterns that weavers create with more freedom than a plainweave. Kilims are closely associated with geometrical designs even though there are kilims with floral motifs as well. All of our kilims have strong but subtle geometric weaves.
