Vintage Marine Red Coral Specimen
This type of coral grows up from the sea floor, but without any secondary branching. They can grow to be up to 2.5 m (8 ft) tall. They can grow on both flat and sloping sea floors at a depth of between 1 and 20 m (65 ft). They are one of the few types of hard coral whose polyps can commonly be seen feeding during the day.
We have been lucky enough to secure a relatively large example of red sponge coral.
This coral type has a spongle like structure and is very light weight. Each piece of marine coral is totally unique and may not look exactly as you see in the picture.
Coral samples are simply beautiful and enchanting to look at. These vintage can be quite fragile so we would recommend keeping your coral either in a cabinet of curiosities or under a glass dome to prevent it becoming dusty and grey. It would look fabulous displayed with a few other specimens of marine or nautical structures. Our starfish or urchin specimens would work wonderfully with this example.
