Seasonal Transitions: How to Perfectly Merge Indoors With Outdoors

As the seasons begin their transition and the days become warmer and longer, with that comes the welcome transition from indoors to outdoors.
With an anticipation in the air of the warm summer evenings stretching ahead of us, now is the time to head outside into our garden and outdoor spaces. Extensions of our homes, our gardens have become a much needed destination in recent years. They are places to relax and reflect after a long day at work, and are the perfect place to entertain and spend precious time with friends and family.
These days, our outdoor spaces need to work a little harder for us. Whatever the size or shape, our gardens should be spaces to relax in, unwind, eat and entertain in. So don’t overlook the chilly spring evenings. Grab the opportunity to wrap up warm, and head outside to enjoy them for that little bit longer.

Neglected after the long winter, give your garden a refresh and begin by sweeping your paths and patios. Tidy up your pots and flowerbeds and start planning your space for the coming months ahead. Create your perfect outdoor haven with the introduction of vintage plant pots and large antique planters filled with herbs and lavender, evocative of warm summers abroad. Embrace natural materials - rustic reclaimed wood, bamboo and rattan - mixed with vintage terracotta pots and antique Mediterranean urns, or repurpose vintage galvanised metal planters for a more contemporary minimalist look.

And don’t head indoors when the light fades! Blur the lines between indoors and outdoors and create inviting cosy spaces for you and your guests using natural materials and textiles. Add ambience by dotting around tea lights and candles and relax onto comfortable outdoor furniture strewn with soft cushions, warm knitted throws and sumptuous sheepskins. Fill woven baskets with cosy textiles to wrap up in as the sun goes down, and have log baskets at the ready, full to the brim with firewood to keep the fire pit burning brightly as the temperatures drop.

However you choose to spend time in your garden, bring a bit of quiet luxury to your outside space. Create simple intimate spaces with a pared back aesthetic. Invest in pieces that will be with you for the years to come, choose furniture that offers versatility and in turn will give you spaces that serve multiple purposes. Pieces that will allow you to lounge and relax on a warm summers afternoon - but can easily be adapted and transformed into a place to entertain family and friends when needed.
