Antique Shipwreck Sawankhalok pottery jar 98001
Originating from Thailand in South East Asia these stunning ceramics were salvaged from a Shipwreck found between China and Indonesia.
This small jar is both a work of art and a time capsule of marine archaeology.
This unique ceramic vase has accumulated marine encrustations upon every surface. Barnacles, coral and calcium deposits cover the surfaces of the pot.
The vase would have originally had an underglazed pattern but the passage of time and tides has worn this away etching the external surfaces to a matt finish. This has allowed marine life to grip the surfaces and take hold. Each pot provided a safe harbour for small fish and aquatic creatures for hundreds of years. Some pots have shells and coral inside them too.
This small jar is both a work of art and a time capsule of marine archaeology.
Made from high-fired glazed stoneware, this Sawankhalok stoneware jar with small lug handles at the neck, with a monochrome iron hand-painted design and over time the vase has become heavy with calcium and marine deposits.
This small Antique Shipwreck Sawankhalok pottery jar with beautiful marine deposits originates from Sawankhalok in the Kingdom of Sukhothai.
