SingburiStorageJar87203
Originating from Thailand in South East Asia these stunning ceramics were salvaged from a Shipwreck found between China and Indonesia.
This large jar is both a work of art and a time capsule of marine archaeology.
This unique vessel has accumulated marine encrustations upon every surface. Barnacles, coral and calcium deposits cover the surfaces of the pot.
The pot would have originally been glazed but the passage of time and tides has worn this away etching the external surfaces to a matt finish. This has allowed marine life to grip the surfaces and take hold. Each pot provided a safe harbour for small fish and aquatic creatures for hundreds of years. Some pots have shells and coral inside them too.
This storage jar is both a work of art and a time capsule of marine archaeology.
Made from high-fired glazed stoneware, this Singburi Storage jar with thick lug handles itself was beautifully made with a rounded mouth-rim and originally would have featured a brown glaze, and over time the vase has become heavy with calcium and marine deposits such as coral, barnacles and bivalves. Details of each face of the pot and the condition can be viewed in the images.
This antique Thai Sawankhalok shipwreck storage jar with beautiful marine deposits originates from the city of Si Satchanalai in the Kingdom of Sukhothai.
Condition is fabulous for age and given that they have been recovered from a sunken boat. Please expect rustic surfaces. Some pots have eroded handles and this is detailed in the images.
