Antique Indian Provincial Wooden Coffer / Damchiya Storage Box

A wonderfully primitive antique Indian wooden coffer, likely inspired by traditional damchiya storage forms and associated with rural household or dowry storage. Unlike the more elaborate and highly carved ceremonial examples, this piece has a beautifully stripped-back provincial character, with simple hand-worked construction and an honest utilitarian presence.

this box is very primitive with a an asymmetric shape and non horizontal lid. A primitive piece of sculptural art. 

Crafted from solid hardwood, the box features thick plank construction, hand-shaped side handles and a deeply weathered surface that speaks to decades of practical use. The softly worn timber, aged patina and subtle carved detailing along the upper edge give the piece a sculptural quality while retaining its rustic authenticity.

Pieces such as this would traditionally have been used within village homes for the storage of household possessions, textiles, provisions or personal belongings, often passed through generations as functional domestic furniture. Its low, grounded form and understated craftsmanship embody the wabi-sabi beauty of vernacular Indian antiques.

To help ensure a smooth delivery, we kindly ask that a capable adult is available to assist the driver with larger furniture items where required. Delivery is made to the ground-floor entrance of your property.

Many of our customers find this service quick, efficient and an excellent value option for larger furniture deliveries.

PREMIUM TWO-PERSON DELIVERY / ASSEMBLY

For complete peace of mind, we also offer a premium two-person delivery / assembly service on many of our larger furniture pieces.

Our experienced team will carefully deliver your furniture, position it in the room of your choice and professionally assemble it where applicable, leaving you free to simply enjoy your new purchase.

SELF-ASSEMBLY

Some furniture, including selected dining tables, is supplied flat-packed to ensure safe transportation. Where self-assembly is required, comprehensive instructions and all necessary fittings are included, making assembly straightforward.
