The collection has two parts. The first is a permanent range of original-design islands in reclaimed timber, made to order and available consistently. The Hartley is a double-sided reclaimed pine island, with two large drawers and cupboards on one side and four smaller drawers and open shelving on the other. The Reclaimed Dark Wood Kitchen Island is made from salvaged teak and based on an antique haberdashery counter, with four drawers to the front and four to the rear on identical mirror-image sides. The second part is a rotating selection of antique and vintage finds sourced from across Europe and beyond, such as workbenches, painted farmhouse islands and aged timber counters. These are one-of-a-kind: the selection changes as new pieces are discovered, and once a piece is sold it cannot be directly replaced.
The Hartley (reclaimed pine) measures H 90cm x W 150cm x D 70cm. The Reclaimed Dark Wood Kitchen Island (teak) measures H 91cm x W 200cm x D 80cm. Antique and vintage pieces vary in size, with dimensions listed on each individual product page. Standard kitchen worktop height is 90-91cm, so both permanent pieces sit comfortably at a working height. Antique finds that sit higher tend to work particularly well with taller bar stools.
Some of the islands are designed with seating in mind. Deeper pieces with a generous worktop overhang work particularly well with bar stools on one side, while shallower ones are better suited to standing use only. The Reclaimed Dark Wood Island, at 80cm deep, offers a comfortable overhang for seating. Check the dimensions of your chosen piece against your preferred stool height before ordering, and get in touch if you are unsure.
Each island is made from solid timber, with no veneers or engineered alternatives. The Hartley uses reclaimed pine, sanded and waxed to a smooth, tactile finish. The Reclaimed Dark Wood Island is made from salvaged solid teak, with timbers estimated to be over a century old. Antique and vintage pieces vary in timber, finish and character depending on what has been sourced, and aged paint, worn surfaces and warm natural grain are all part of what they are.
Each design is a reinterpretation of an antique original, studied for its proportions and joinery, and none is copied exactly or made to look aged. The reclaimed islands are built using mortise and tenon joinery, dovetail drawer joints, frame-and-panel construction and tongue and groove backs, and the timber is hand-finished.
Yes, every island in the collection is freestanding and does not require fitting or installation. Each can be placed freely within your kitchen and repositioned as needed, which also makes them versatile beyond the kitchen: the Hartley works as a bathroom vanity unit or sideboard, and the Reclaimed Dark Wood Island is equally at home in a grand entrance hall. Antique and vintage finds are just as flexible, and a workbench or painted farmhouse island can work in a dining room, utility room or large open-plan space. On assembly, the Hartley arrives ready to use. The Reclaimed Dark Wood Island needs its legs fitted on delivery, typically a five-minute task. Antique and vintage pieces vary, with any assembly requirements noted on the individual product page, and full instructions and all necessary fittings are included where self-assembly is needed.
Kitchen islands are large, heavy pieces and are delivered by specialist furniture couriers. Delivery to most of mainland UK is completed within 7-14 working days of placing your order. Once your order is received, you will be contacted by email before the delivery partner arranges a convenient date directly with you. Standard delivery is carried out by a one-person courier service, so a capable adult needs to be available to help move the piece from the vehicle, and delivery is made to the ground-floor entrance of your property. A premium two-person delivery and placement service is available on selected pieces for an additional £80, in which the team positions the island in the room of your choice and assembles it where required.
