Rich in history and wonderfully practical, this Antique French Oak Railway Multi Drawer Cabinet is an exceptional original piece dating to around 1890. Crafted from solid oak, it was once used in a French railway office, where its many numbered drawers are believed to have stored employees' wage packets during a time when railway workers were paid in cash.
Beautifully proportioned, its tall, narrow design makes it an ideal storage piece where floor space is limited. The collection of individually numbered drawers creates striking visual interest while offering practical storage for everything from jewellery and stationery to sewing supplies, craft materials, collectibles or keepsakes.
Over more than 130 years, the oak has developed a wonderfully rich patina, with beautifully worn edges, softened timber and the authentic character that only genuine antiques can possess. The original numbered brass drawer plates remain in place, quietly telling the story of the cabinet's fascinating working life.
Today this remarkable cabinet works equally well in a hallway, home office, study, bedroom or living room, where it serves as both a practical storage solution and an exceptional conversation piece.
